August Principal Letter to Families
Dear St. Joan of Arc Families,
I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back in Toledo, OH, with my family, and preparing for your sons and daughters to return to school! As enjoyable as my time in South Bend was, by the end of it, I was itching to get back to St. Joan of Arc and get to work!
I wanted to update you as August rolls in. Several teachers have joined our mission and ministry this month. Serving our 3rd grade students will be Christa Monnette. She graduated from Western Michigan University and has been teaching in Michigan. Serving our 4th and 5th graders in Math and Religion will be Anna Gagnet, an alumna of our school. She graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville and has been teaching out west. Finally, Nathan Rawlins will be serving our 6th to 8th graders as the part-time Religion Teacher. Nathan graduated from Lourdes University, where he continues as a part-time Professor of Theology. We’re very excited to have these talented individuals join us in our mission of serving you and your children in Catholic education.
The image I chose for this month’s Letter is of the icon "Duc in Altum". These words, in Latin, are the words that Jesus spoke to Simon Peter when he told him to “Put out into the deep.” Peter obeyed and caught a tremendous amount of fish with his brother Andrew. As we embark upon a new school year, Jesus calls each of us to “put out into the deep” -- to face new challenges, embrace new opportunities, and continue to strive forward even when things seem stacked against us.
Don’t forget the Blessing of the Backpacks (at 11:30 Mass) and Welcome Back Day (formerly known as Meet the Teacher) in the school following Mass on August 18th! The faculty, staff, and I are looking forward to seeing you.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or my staff with any concerns. And thank you for entrusting SJA with your children’s education and formation!
St. Joan of Arc, pray for us!
