WEEK OF MAY 20-24, 2019

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 20 (The Work of the Church) with a test on Thursday 5/23.

Math:  We will begin Chapter 12 (Two-Dimensional Shapes).

Reading:  We will finish reading Muggie Maggie by Beverly Cleary and take the A.R. test over this story.

Grammar:  We will complete #129-132 in class and have a quiz over these lessons on Friday 5/24.

Science:  We will continue working on our animal projects in class.

Social Studies:  We will have a test on economics on Friday 5/24.  Study guides will come home on Monday 5/20.

Reminder:  Field Day is Wednesday 5/22.  Students may dress down and are encouraged to bring a water bottle.

 

 

 

WEEK OF MAY 13-17, 2019

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 20 (The Work of the Church).

Math:  We will continue with Chapter 11 (Perimeter and Area).

Reading:  We will continue reading Muggie Maggie by Beverly Cleary.

Spelling:   We will begin the review units.  All work will be done in class.  There will not be any more homework packets or spelling tests.

Grammar:  We will complete #125-128 in class and have a quiz over these lessons on Friday 5/17.

Social Studies:  We will continue with our economics unit.

Science:  We will have our tests on plants on Tuesday 5/14.  We will begin our animal projects (in class).

 

WEEK OF MAY 6-10, 2019

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 18 with a test on Friday 5/10.

Math:  We will have a measurement test (2nd half of Chapter 10) on Wednesday 5/8.

Reading:  We will finish Dog Finds Lost Dolphins and More True Stories of Amazing Animal Heroes and take the A.R. test on this book.

Spelling:  Unit 35 focuses on compound words.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 5/6 and is due back on Friday 5/10.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 5/10.  Unit 35 words are: herself, nobody, airplane, grandfather, someone, rainbow, anything, grandmother, everything, afternoon, sunshine, himself, anybody, something, and without.

Grammar:  We will complete #121-124 together in class and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday 5/10.

Science:  We will finish learning about plants and have a test over these concepts on Tuesday 5/14.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday 5/7.

Social Studies:  We will continue with our economics unit.

WEEK OF APRIL 15-18, 2019 (Holy Week)

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 17 with a test on Wednesday 4/17.  Thursday 4/18 is a retreat day.

Math:  We will focus on measuring to the nearest half and quarter inch.

Reading:  We will focus on comprehension skills.

Grammar:  We will be working on a writing project related to Holy Week.  (No Simple Solutions grammar lessons this week.)

Spelling:  There will not be a spelling unit this week.

Social Studies:  We will discuss goods and services.

Science:  We will begin our study of plants.

*We will be MAP testing (Math) on Monday 4/15.

WEEK OF APRIL 8-12, 2019

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 17 (Sacraments of Healing).

Math:  We will have a test over time on Wednesday 4/10.

Reading:  We will continue reading The Littles.

Grammar:  We will complete #113-116 together in class, but we will not have a quiz over these lessons due to MAP testing.

Spelling:  We will not have a spelling unit this week.

Social Studies:  We will have our government test on Tuesday 4/9.  Study guides were sent home on Tuesday 4/2.  Students can also go to quizlet.com and search for 3A/3B Government Review (created by lkoepfer) to review.  We used this to review in class, so the students are familiar with it.

*MAP  testing will take place on Tuesday (Language Arts) and Wednesday (Reading).

 

WEEK OF APRIL 1-5, 2019

Religion: We will take a test over Chapter 16 on Wednesday 4/3.

Math:  We will continue Chapter 10 (TIme, Length, Liquid, Volume, and Mass).

Reading:  We will begin reading The Littles by John Peterson.

Grammar:  We will complete #109-112 together in class and have a quiz over these lessons on Friday 4/5.

Spelling:  Unit 33 focuses on -er and -est.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 4/1 and is due back on Friday 4/5.  We will take a test over this unit on Friday 4/5.  Unit 33 words are: larger, sadder, widest, sharper, closest, hotter, saddest, redder, reddest, wider, later, largest, closer, hottest, and latest.

Social Studies:  We will take a test on the levels of government on Tuesday 4/9.  A study guide will come home on Tuesday 4/2.

Science:  We will learn about electricity.  There will be a test on sound, magnetism, and electricity on Thursday 4/11.  A study guide will be sent home on Thursday 4/4.

*Please check with your child about any school supplies they need to finish the school year.  Many students are out of glue sticks.  Thank you!

 

WEEK OF MARCH 25-29, 2019

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 16 (Sacraments of Initiation).

Math:  We will finish Chapter 9 (Compare Fractions) and take a test over this chapter on Wednesday 3/27.  Students should continue to practice multiplication/division facts each night.

Reading:  We will finish reading Stallion by Starlight by Mary Pope Osborne and take an AR test on this book.

Grammar:  We will complete #105-108 together in class and have a quiz over these lessons on Friday 3/29.

Spelling:  Unit 32 focuses on changing y to i.  The homework packet will be sent home on Monday 3/25 and is due back on Friday 3/29.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 3/29.  Unit 32 words are:  party, baby, fairy, parties, spy, babies, spies, fairies, mystery, factories, mysteries, hobby, factory, ruby, and hobbies.

Social Studies:  We will continue to learn about our government.

Science:  We will learn about magnetism.

 

WEEK OF MARCH 18-21, 2019

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 14 (Live in the Light) with a test on Thursday 3/21.

Math:  We will continue Chapter 9 (Compare Fractions).  Students should be practicing multiplication/division facts nightly.

Reading:  We will continue reading Stallion by Starlight.  The last day to take an A.R. test is Thursday March 21.

Spelling/Grammar:  There will not be grammar lessons or a spelling unit next week.  We will be focusing on the writing process.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about local, state, and national government.

Science:  We will learn about magnetism.

 

WEEK OF MARCH 11-15, 2019

Religion:  We will continue with Chapter 14 (Live in the Light).

Math:  We will begin Chapter 9 (Compare Fractions).  Students should be practicing thier multiplication facts every night.

Reading:  We will finish reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and take an A.R. test over the story.  The last day to take an A.R. test for 3rd quarter is March 21st.

Grammar:  We will complete #101-104 together in class and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday 3/15.

Spelling:  Unit 31 focuses on inflectional endings -s and -es.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 3/11 and is due back Friday 3/15.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 3/15.  Unit 31 words are: flags, inches, dresses, pies, bushes, classes, apples, colors, drums, branches, things, buses, benches, tracks, and brushes.

Social Studies:  We will have a test on citizenship on Tuesday 3/12.  Study guides were sent home on Wednesday 3/6.

Science:  We will continue to learn about sound.

 

 

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 1, 2019

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 12 (Catholic and Apostolic).  We will take a test over this chapter on Thursday 2/28.

Math:  We will continue Chapter 8 (Understand Fractions).

Reading:  We will begin reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume.

Grammar:  We will complete #93-96 together in class and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday 3/1.

Spelling:  Unit 28 focuses on consonant doubling: add -ed, -ing.  The homework packet will be sent home on Tuesday 2/26 and is due back on Friday 3/1.  We will take a test over this unit on Friday 3/1.  Unit 28 words are: stopped, digging, rubbed, sitting, planned, wrapping, sledding, dropped, scrubbing, hopped, putting, tripped, swimming, spotted, and running

Social Studies:  We will continue our unit on government.

Science:  We will finish learning about light.  We will have a test over heat and light on Tuesday 3/5.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday 2/26.

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19-22, 2019

Religion:  We will continue Chapter 12 (Catholic and Apostolic).

Math:  We will continue Chapter 8 (Understand Fractions).

Reading:  We will finish The Chocolate Touch and take an A.R. test over the story.

Grammar:  We will complete #89-92 together in class and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday 2/22.

Spelling:  Unit 27 focuses on drop final e, add -ing.  The homework packet will come home on Tuesday 2/19 and is due back on Friday 2/22.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 2/22.  Unit 27 words are: coming, skating, taking, giving, choosing, smiling, baking, sliding, changing, waving, leaving, making, hoping, trading, and having.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about the levels of government.

Science:  We will continue learning about light.

 

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 11-15, 2019

Religion:  There will be a test over Chapter 11 on Tuesday 2/12.

Math:  We will finish our test on Chapter 2 on Monday 2/11 and begin Chapter 8 (Understand Fractions).  Students should be practicing their multiplication facts nightly.

Reading:  We will continue reading The Chocolate Touch.

Grammar:  We will complete #85-88 together in class and have a test over these lessons on Friday 2/15.

Spelling:  Unit 26 focuses on double consonants + y.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 2/11 and is due back on Friday 2/15.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 2/15.  Unit 26 words are:  carry, bunny, happy, muddy, berry, furry, puppy, sorry, merry, jelly, hurry, pretty, cherry, worry, and funny.

Social Studies: We will begin learning about the levels of government.

Science:  We will finish learning about heat and begin learning about light.

 

 

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 4-8, 2019

Religion:  We will continue Chapter 11 (One and Holy).

Math:  We will continue Chapter 2 (Represent and Interpret Data).

Reading:  We will finish The Boxcar Children and take an AR test over the story.

Grammar:  We will complete #82-84 together in class and have a test over lessons 81-84 on Friday 2/8.

Spelling:  The homework packet from Unit 23 is due Monday 2/4.  There will not be a test over Unit 23 due to the snow days. The homework packet for Unit 25 will come home on Monday 2/4 and is due back on Friday 2/8.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 2/8.  Unit 25 focuses on double consonants in the middle of words.  The spelling words are:  supper, happen, pepper, kitten, sudden, letter, dinner, cotton, lesson, mitten, bottom, summer, better, ladder, and ribbon.

Social Studies:  We will discuss how communities are made up of diverse cultural groups.

Science:  The quiz over changes in states of matter will be given on Monday 2/4.  Study guides were sent home on Tuesday 1/22.

 

 

WEEK OF JANUARY 28- FEBRUARY 1, 2019

Religion:  We will continue Chapter 11 (One and Holy).

Math:  We will continue Chapter 2 (Represent and Interpret Data).

Reading:  We will finish The Boxcar Children and take an AR test over the story.

Grammar:  We will complete #81-84 together in class and have a test over these lessons on Friday 2/1.

Spelling:  Unit 23 focuses on single-syllable homophones.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 1/28 and is due back on Friday 2/1.  There will be a test on Friday 2/1.  Unit 23 words are: way, its, owe, sell, great, sail, cell, scent, oh, cent, it's, grate, weigh, sale, and sent.

Social Studies:  We will discuss how communities are made up of diverse cultural groups.

Science:  There will be a quiz over changes in states of matter on Tuesday 1/29.  Study guides were sent home on Tuesday 1/22.

WEEK OF JANUARY 22-25, 2019

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 11 (One and Holy).

Math:  We will continue with Chapter 2 (Represent and Interpret Data).  We have started multiplication timed tests (50 facts in 3 minutes).  Students should be practicing their facts each night.

Reading:  We will continue reading The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

 Spelling:  Unit 22 focuses on r- controlled vowels /ar/ spelled air, ear, are, ere, and eir.  The homework packet will go home on Tuesday 1/22 and is due back on Friday 1/25.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 1/25.  Unit 22 words are pear, pair, hare, barefoot, fare, their, hair, bare, nowhere, there, software, wear, fair, where, and  hardware.

Grammar:    We will complete #77-80 together in class and have a quiz over these lessons on Friday 1/25.

Social Studies: We will discuss how communities change.

Science:  We will finish our unit on changes of state, physical and chemical change.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday 1/22 and there will be a test over these concepts on Tuesday 1/29.

 

WEEK OF JANUARY 14-18, 2019

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 10 (Church Leaders) with a test on Friday 1/18.

Math:  We will have a test over Chapter 7 (Division Facts and Strategies) on Tuesday 1/15.  We have started our multiplication timed tests (50 facts in 3 minutes).  Students should be practicing their facts each night.

Reading:  We will continue reading The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner.  Students will be taking the STAR assessment to determine their A.R. levels for 3rd quarter.

Grammar:  We will be completing #73-76 together in class and take a test over these lessons on Friday 1/18.

Spelling:  Unit 21 focuses on r-controlled vowel /ur/ spelled or, ur, ear, ir.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 1/14 and is due back on Friday 1/18.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday 1/18.  Unit 21 words are:  word, fur, early, circus, turn, skirt, earth, work, curl, learn, hurt, dirt, earn, shirt, and heard.

Science:  We will learn about physical and chemical change.

Social Studies:  We will discuss ways in which our community has changed.

*Students may bring in $1.00 (for Unbound) on Monday 1/14 to dress down.

 

WEEK OF DECEMBER 17-20, 2018

Religion:  We will continue to learn about Advent and Christmas.

Math:  We will continue Chapter 7 (Division Facts and Strategies).

Reading:  We will use Miss Holly is Too Jolly to apply and practice our grammar skills.

Grammar:  We will complete #65-68 in our grammar books, but there will not be a quiz this week.

Spelling:  There will not be a spelling unit this week.

Social Studies:  We will look at how communication and transportation has changed.

Science:  We will use our chromebooks to learn more about states of matter.

 

WEEK OF DECEMBER 10-14, 2018

Religion:  We will learn about Advent and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Math:   We will continue Chapter 7 (Division Facts and Strategies).

Reading:  We will finish reading Miss Holly is Too Jolly and take an A.R. test on the story.

Spelling:  Unit 19 focuses on aw, o.  The spelling packet will be coming home on Monday 12/10 and is due back on Friday 12/14.  A test over this unit will be given on Friday 12/14.  Unit 19 words are:  draw, cost, dawn, across, belong, cross, soft, crawl, song, boss, straw, lawn, raw, lost, and law.

Grammar:  We will complete #61-64 together in class.  There will be a quiz over these lessons on Friday 12/14.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about timelines.

Science:  There will be a test on states of matter on Thursday 12/13.  The study guide went  home on Thursday 12/6.

 

WEEK OF DECEMBER 3-7, 2018

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 9 (The Body of Christ) with a test on Wednesday 12/5.

Math:   We will finish Chapter 6 (Understand Division) with a test on Thursday 12/6.

Reading:  We will continue reading Miss Holly is Too Jolly.

Spelling:  Unit 17 focuses on words writers use.  The homework packet will go home on Monday 12/3 and is due back on Friday 12/7.  A test over this unit will be given on Friday 12/7.  Unit 17 words are: friend, very, people, your, after, busy, other, were, should, once, would, sure, little, every, and could.

Grammar:  We will complete #57-60 together in class and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday 12/7.

Social Studies:  We will learn about timelines.

Science:  We will continue learning about states of matter.

*We will be celebrating Mass on Monday 12/3. 

*Students may dress down for our field trip on Wednesday 12/5.  Lunch will be provided.  Please do not send any money with your child.    Students will not be permitted to buy extra foor and/or visit the gift shop.

 

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 26-30, 2018

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 9 (The Body of Christ).

Math:  We will continue Chapter 6 (Understand Division).

Reading:  We will begin reading Miss Holly is Too Jolly by Dan Gutman.

Grammar:  We will complete #53-56 together in class and take a test over these lessons on Friday, November 30.

Spelling:  Unit 15 focuses on diagraphs and blends.  The homework packet will be sent home on Monday, November 26 and is due back on Friday, November 30.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday, November 30.  Unit 15 words are: shook, flash, speech, think, strong, cloth, brook, stitch, string, scratch, fresh, spring, switch, stretch, and splash.

Social Studies:  We will continue learning about primary and secondary sources.

Science:  We will continue learning about states of matter.

 

 

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 12-16, 2018

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 8 (The Paschal Mystery).  We will have test over this chapter on Friday, November 16.

Math:  We will continue Chapter 6 (Understand Division).

Reading:  We will finish reading Third Grade Mix-Up and take an A.R. test on this story on Wednesday, November 14.

Grammar:  We will complete #49-52 together in class and take a test over these lessons on Friday, November 16.

Spelling:  Unit 14 focuses on complex consonants (soft g and soft c).  The homework packet will come home on Monday, November 12 and is due back on Friday, November 16.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday, November 16.  Unit 14 words are: change, fence, space, age, center, large, since, price, page, ice, dance, pencil, slice, place, and city.

Social Studies:  There will be an extra credit "test" over all 50 states on Tuesday, November 13.  Students will receive one extra credit point for every ten states they can correctly identify.  Students have seen a copy of the test, and have been reviewing the states on abcya.com.

Science:  We will finish working on our in-class project on natural resources.  We will begin states of matter.

 

 

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 5 - 9, 2018

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 8 (The Paschal Mystery).

Math:  We will finish Chapter 5 (Use Multiplication Facts) with a test on Thursday, November 8.

Reading:  We will continue reading Third Grade Mix-Up.

Spelling:  Unit 13 focuses on ch, sh, tch, th, wr, and ck.  The homework packet will come home on Monday, November 5 and is due back on Friday, November 9.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday, November 9.  Unit 13 spelling words are: shape, church, watch, father, wrap, check, finish, sharp, mother, write, catch, chase, shall, thick, and wrote.

Grammar:  We will complete #45-48 in class and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday, November 9.

Social Studies:  There will be a quiz over the states in the northeastern region on Friday, November 9.  Study guides were sent home on Friday, November 2.

Science:  We will continue working on an in-class project on natural resources.  The test on soil, air, and water resources will be on Tuesday, November 6.  A study guide was sent home on Tuesday, October 30.

 

WEEK OF OCTOBER 29 - NOVEMBER 2, 2018

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 7 and take a test over this chapter on Tuesday, October 30. 

Math:  We will begin Chapter 5 (Use Multiplication Facts).  Students should be practicing multiplication facts each night.

Reading:  We will continue reading Third Grade Mix-Up.

Spelling:  Unit 11 focuses on long o (ow, oa, o).  The homework packet will come home on Monday, October 29 and is due back on Friday, November 2.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday, November 2.  Unit 11 words are:  snow, row, window, flow, throw, blow, below, load, soak, foam, goat, float, soap. almost, most.

Grammar:  We will complete #41-44 together in class.  There will not be a quiz over these lessons.

Social Studies:  We will take a quiz on the southeastern states on Friday, November 2.

Science:  We will complete an in-class project on natural resources.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday, October 30 for our next test on soil, air, and water resources.  The test will be on Tuesday, November 6.

 

WEEK OF OCTOBER 22-26, 2018

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 7 (The Good News).

Math:  We will finish Chapter 4 (Multiplication Facts and Strategies) and take a test over this chapter on Thursday, October 25th.  Students should be practicing their multiplication facts nightly.

Reading:  We will STAR test for 2nd quarter A.R. levels on Monday, October 22nd.  We will begin reading Third Grade Mix-Up by Michele Jakubowski.

Spelling:  Unit 10 focuses on long i (-i, -igh).  The homework packet will come home on Monday, October 22nd and is due back on Friday, October 26th.  There will be a test over this unit on Friday, October 26th.

Grammar:  We will complete #37-40 together in class.  There will be a quiz over these lessons on Friday, October 26th.

Social Studies:  There will be a test on the western and southwestern regions on Thursday, October 25th.  Study guides were sent home on Friday, October 12th.

Science:  We will begin learning about air and water resources.

 

 

WEEK OF OCTOBER 15-17, 2018

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 6 (Pray Always) with a test on Wednesday 10/17.

Math:  We will continue with Chapter 4 (Multiplication Facts and Strategies).  Students should be practicing their multiplication facts each night.

Reading:  We will finish reading Freckle Juice by Judy Blume and take a test over this story on Wednesday 10/17.  The last day to take an A.R. test for the First Quarter is Wednesday 10/17.

Spelling:  There will not be a spelling unit this week.

Grammar:  We will complete #33-36 in class, but there will not be a quiz over these lessons.

Social Studies:  We will begin learning about the states in the west and southwest regions.  A study guide was sent home Friday 10/12.  We will take a test over these regions on Thursday 10/25.

Science:  We will finish learning about soil and begin learning about air and water resources.  The next science test will be on soil and air and water resources.

 

 

WEEK OF OCTOBER 8-12, 2018

Religion:  We will continue with Chapter 6 (Pray Always).

Math:  We will continue with Chapter 4 (Multiplication Facts and Strategies).  As we begin learning multiplication facts, it is important for the students to practice these facts each night.

Reading:  We will finish reading Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli and take an A.R. test over this story.

Spelling:  Unit 9 focuses on long e spelled  -ee, -ea.  We will send the homework packet home on Monday, October 8th and it will be due on Friday, October 12th.  A test over this unit will be given on Friday, Ocotober 12th.  Unit 9 words are:  sheep, dream, street, east, treat, mean, wheels, peace, real, cheese, leave, stream, sweet, teacher, and heat.

Grammar:  We will complete Lessons 29-32 together in class.  There will be a quiz over these lessons on Friday, October 12th.

Social Studies:  We will learn about the states in the midwest region.  There will be a quiz over these states on Friday, October 12th.  (Students will have to identify the states on a map.)  A study guide was sent home Friday, October 5th.

Science:  We will continue learning about soil.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 1-5, 2018

Religion:  We will begin Chapter 6 (Pray Always).

Math:  We will finish Chapter 3 (Understand Multiplication) with a test on Wednesday 10/3.

Reading:  We will continue reading Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli.

Spelling:  Unit 8 focuses on long a (ai, ay).  The homework packet will come home on Monday 10/1 and is due back on Friday 10/5.  A test over this unit will be on Friday 10/5.  Unit 8 words are:  aid, pay, chain, mail, tray, paint, maybe, plain, lay, main, always, pail, laid, away, and paid.

Grammar:  We will complete #25-28 together in class and take a test over these lessons on Friday 10/5.

Science:  We will finish our unit on rocks and minerals with a test on Tuesday 10/2.

Social Studies:  We will review for our map skills test on Tuesday 10/2.  We will take a test over this unit on Thursday 10/4.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 24-28, 2018

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 5 (The Church Celebrates) and take a test over this chapter on Friday 9/28.

Math:  We will continue with Chapter 3 (Understand Multiplication).

Reading:  We will continue reading Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli.

Spelling:  Unit 7 focuses on vowel-consonant-e.  The homework packet will be sent home on Monday 9/24 and is due back on Friday 9/28.  A test over this unit will be on Friday 9/28.  Unit 7 words are:  state, close, slide, face, globe, pave, size, smoke, flame, broke, prize, skate, smile, plane, stone.

Grammar:  We will complete Lessons 21-24 together in class.  There will be a quiz over these lessons on Friday 9/28.

Social Studies:  We will finish our unit on mapping and take a test on Thursday 10/4.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday 9/25.

Science:  We will finish our unit on rocks and minerals.  We will have a test over this unit on Tuesday 10/2.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday 9/25.

*Just a reminder that permission slips (for our trip to Oaks Openings) are due Monday 10/1.

 

 

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17-21, 2018

Religion:  We will take a test over Chapter 4 (The Holy Trinity) on Tuesday 9/18.

Math:  We will begin Chapter 3 (Understand Multiplication).

Reading:  We will begin reading Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli.

Spelling:  Unit 5 focuses on -ew, -oo.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 9/17 and will be due back on Friday 9/21.  A test over this unit will be given on Friday 9/21.  Unit 5 words are:  crew, loose, news, school, drew, knew, smooth, pool, shoot, threw, roof, fool, chew, balloon, and choose.

Grammar:  We will complete Lessons #17-20 together in class.  There will be a quiz over these lessons on Friday 9/21.

Social Studies:  We will use maps to locate the countries that border the United States, continents, and oceans.

Science:  We will continue our unit on rocks and minerals.

*We were unable to Map test on 9/11 and 9/12 due to internet issues, so we will be testing this week.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 10-14, 2018

Religion:  We will finish Chapter 4 (The Holy Trinity) and take a test over this chapter on Tuesday 9/18.

Math:  We will finish Chapter 1 (Addition and Subtraction within 1,000) and have a test over this chapter on Friday 9/14.

Reading:  We will continue reading Marvin Redpost: KIdnapped at Birth? by Louis Sachar.

Spelling:  Unit 4 focuses on abstract vowels ou, oi.  The homework packet will come home on Monday 9/10 and will be due back on Friday 9/14.  A test over this unit will be given on Friday 9/14.  Unit 4 words are:  proud, boil, loud, house, join, cloud, sound, voice, oil, round, point, south, found, soil, and ground.

Grammar:  We will complete Lessons 13-16 in our Grammar book together.  We will NOT be taking a quiz over these lessons.

Social Studies:  We will locate the continents and oceans on a map.

Science:  We will continue our unit on rocks and minerals.

*3A will be MAP testing on Tuesday 9/11, Wednesday 9/12, and Tuesday 9/18.

*Homework Help ~ Homework help is available in Room 4B every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday until 4:00.  Please check the sjaweekly for more information and guidelines.

 

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 4-7, 2018

Religion - We will continue Chapter 4 (The Holy Trinity).  We will celebrate Mass on Wednesday 9/5.

Math - We will continue Chapter 1 (Addition and Subtraction within 1,000).

Reading - We will begin reading Marvin Redpost ~ Kidnapped at Birth? by Louis Sachar.

Spelling - Unit 3 focuses on short u.  We will send the homework packet home on Tuesday 9/4 and it is due Friday 9/7.  A test over this unit will be given Friday 9/7.  Unit 3 words are: lunch, until, cover, buzz, become, stuff, nothing, dull, month, study, love, uncle, cuff, none, and under.

Grammar - We will complete lessons 9-12 in our grammar book together.  There will be a quiz over these lessons on Friday 9/7.  Grammar books will be sent home on Thursday 9/6 for the students to review this week's lessons.

Social Studies - We will continue our unit on mapping.

Science - We will finish learning about the scientific method and begin our unit on rocks and minerals.

WEEK OF AUGUST 27-31, 2018

Religion - We will finish Chapter 3 (Families Teach Love) with a test on Thursday 8/30.  We will celebrate Mass on Wednesday 8/29.

Math - We will continue Chapter 1 (Addition and Subtraction within 1,000).

Reading - We will finish The Chalk Box Kid on Friday and take an A.R. test on this book.

Spelling - Unit 2 focuses on short o and short e.  Unit 2 words  are crop, test, clock, spent, drop, left, sled, plot, spend, west, block, tent, desk, flock, and nest.

Grammar - We will complete #5-8 together and take a quiz over these lessons on Friday 8/31.  Their grammar books will be sent home on Thursday for the students to review the lessons.

Social Studies - We will continue our unit on mapping.

Science - We will learn about the scientific method.

 

WEEK OF AUGUST 20-24, 2018

Religion - We will begin with Chapter 3 (Families Teach Love).  We will be celebrating Mass on Friday 8/24.

Math - We will start Chapter 1 (Addition and Subtraction within 1,000).

Reading - We will begin reading The Chalk Box Kid by Clyde Robert Bulla.  We will also be STAR testing.  Students will be bringing a letter home explaining the A.R. program for third grade.

Spelling - Unit 1 focuses on short a and short i.  The spelling words are land, stick, plan, trip, stand, act, thing, last, lift, band, grand, swim, stamp, list, and sand.  A test over this unit will be given on Friday 8/24.

Grammar - We will complete #1-4 in our grammar book together.  

Social Studies - We will begin our unit on mapping.

Science - We will learn about the scientific method.
