2017-2018 School Hot Lunch Changes
Dear SJA Families,
This letter is to inform you of some changes that are happening to our school lunch program. We have decided not to renew our contract with Extra Virgin due to a variety of factors, such as cost, waste and low orders. The amount of food that the children were throwing away daily, the low number of orders on days when the menu item wasn’t a favorite and an increase in cost were all taken into consideration when making this decision. It wasn’t a decision that was made lightly as we know there are many families that ordered every day. It was a decision that we felt was necessary and warranted. That being said, in looking forward to the 2017-2018 school year, here is an overview of the new lunch room procedure. Please note that this is a work in progress, and by all means not set in stone, but rather a continuing learning experience with room for change.
When school starts on August 17th, you will need to pack a lunch for your child(ren). We will only offer hot lunch 2 days a week, Wednesday and Friday, starting on Wednesday September 6th.
On Wednesdays we will offer a variety of choices from Chick-fil-A and on Fridays we have decided to keep the very popular menu choice of Marco’s Pizza. That leaves Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday that you will need to pack your child(ren) lunch. Purchasing hot lunch on Wednesday and Friday is strictly optional and will be done through RenWeb, the same as last year. If you choose not to order on hot lunch days then you will need to pack a lunch everyday. Milk and water will still be offered daily, but you will need to be specific when preselecting chocolate or white milk. Please check which option you want your child to receive, being as precise as possible, because this is where the milk/water counts will come from.
As always, cereal and a snack will be provided for those children that forget a lunch. A charge slip will be sent home detailing the cost to you should that occur. This is not intended to take the place of packing a lunch, it is offered as an emergency option only.
A significant change from last year will be that orders are required to be placed a week in advance. No more ordering will be allowed on the day of. The RenWeb lunch menu will be open for the month but close every Monday for that week. For example if you want to place an order for September 6th Chick-fil-A and/or pizza on September 8th, then you need to do so by Monday September 4th by 8:00 a.m. We strongly suggest that you order by the month, as to not cause any confusion, and simplify it for yourself. This change was required, at the vendors request, in order to be sure that ample supply is available to fulfill our order. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, if this happens, please call the school office at 419-866-6177 as soon as possible to make arrangements for your child’s lunch that day.
Again, please remember, this is a work in progress, and will be evolving as we see what works best. Our future may hold additional days and menu items. Should you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office.

Preschool (lunch in room) 11:30 a.m.
Grades K- 4 11:45 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.
Grades 5-8 12:15 p.m. –12:35 p.m.
-A nut-free table is available for students with allergies.
-Glass containers are not permitted in the Lunchroom.
-Please note that we cannot heat items brought from home in the Lunchroom
